Justice & Peace Immersion Trip in our Nation's Capital @ Washington, DC

Intersectional Challenges: Poverty, Migration, and Racism in our Nation’s Capital
Register here by Aug. 1, 2019

In the tradition of Catholic Social Teaching and praxis, local groups and religious leaders will guide us with insightful social analysis, encounters, and drawing on the dimensions of active nonviolence and a just peace ethic to both understand poverty, migration, and racism in our nation’s capital, as well as envision social transformation. We will encounter the dynamics of one of the poorest parts of our country in the midst of one of the wealthiest areas, the experiences of migrants intersecting with such poverty, and key structural challenges, such as gentrification.

Encounter: We will have the opportunity to visit organizations working closely with those on the margins. We will learn from speakers from various viewpoints on these issues. There will be regular times for Mass, group prayer, and reflection on our encounters to deepen insight and friendship with each other.

Who: This event is primarily for CMSM members and their staffs. The minimum age is 18 years old.

Housing: Washington Retreat House, 4000 Harewood Rd. NE, Washington DC 20017 (included in registration, along with breakfasts and two dinners)

Cost: $250. Scholarships are available as needed.
