As we move through the Gospel readings of the Easter season with the various appearances of the Risen Christ, we witness the joy of the disciples, but their confusion as well. He is risen, but what does that mean for them? Over time, they come to realize the meaning as they are given a mission to “Go…, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” (Mt. 28:19). Their mission then is our mission now. No matter what charism we may have, we are sent to make disciples of the Risen One! Our sending as members of religious communities of men comes in a variety of forms. For some it is a literal sending, sometimes to various parts of the world. For others, it is a sending into prayer for the Church and the world. For still others, it is a combination of the two. All are needed to continue the mission until Christ comes again.
