As the 2025 Jubilee Year opens, Pope Francis invites us to be pilgrims of hope. He tells us that “in the heart of each person, hope dwells as the desire and expectation of good things to come, despite our not knowing what the future may bring” (Spes non confundit, 1). As leaders, we know that hope is not simply wishful thinking. It requires trust in God and preparation on our part.

The Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life invited those in Consecrated Life to celebrate a National Jubilee of Consecrated Life in each country on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, February 2, 2025. The focus of the National Jubilee and the International Jubilee of Consecrated Life in Rome, October 9-10, 2025, is on how people in Consecrated Life can be bearers of hope by working for greater reconciliation and peace among all. The celebration for the United States is online. You are cordially invited to participate.

A leader who is living in hope prepares through not only reflection, but through on-going formation. For those who are new or returning to leadership, the CMSM New Leader Workshop, March 11-13, 2025, is a time to more deeply understand and dialogue about the many areas of responsibility of leaders of religious communities, both major superiors and councilors.

Preparation and learning for leadership do not simply begin with an election or appointment. CMSM also offers a leadership formation course for young religious which will begin in September 2025 and conclude in August 2026. There is more information about both programs below.

Throughout our Jubilee pilgrimage of 2025, CMSM will provide several opportunities to reflect on how leaders and religious communities can be bearers of hope in our Church and in our world.

In prayerful solidarity,

Frank Donio, SAC

Executive Director
