The Justice and Peace Office assists CMSM in fulfilling its mission to “provide a corporate influence in church and society,” and to “promote dialogue and collaboration with the conference of bishops and other major groups in church and society,” particularly regarding issues of social justice domestically, internationally, and within the Church.
The Office is a resource for CMSM members and all U.S. religious interested in social justice and peace-building on topics such as care for creation, economic justice, human trafficking, immigration, and peacemaking. Our work draws upon the rich experiences of religious in the U.S. and serving in mission. We work in collaboration with member institutes, LCWR, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, other Catholic organizations, ecumenical and inter-religious organizations, and other human rights and social justice organizations, to analyze and respond effectively to policies that affect the marginalized in the U.S. and around the world. Our resources include
- Statements on key justice issues
- Best-practice resources for JPIC ministers, including social justice resources for homilies
- JP Alerts - biweekly emails with news and issue-specific alerts; these are emailed to CMSM members, JPIC's and other interested persons. Sign up here.
- Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Promoters (JPIC's) network, including a listserve for mutually sharing resources, advocacy tips, questions, and suggestions related to JP issues. If you are a JPIC for a CMSM member institute, email to join the listserve.
