CMSM maintains a strong relationship with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to ensure access to resources that can be both valuable and adaptable to the efforts for protection of minors that is ongoing in men's religious communities and institutes for consecrated life. The items on this page refer to such useful information on the USCCB website.
Safe Environment Coordinators
Churches, schools, and youth organizations must ensure that children and youth who worship, study, or participate in activities sponsored by a parish can do so in the safest and most secure setting possible. The USCCB has provided a list of Safe Environment Coordinators in U.S. dioceses and archdioceses. Major superiors and leaders of religious communities may consider outreach to their appropriate diocesan safe environment coordinator to provide assistance and local resources for their own efforts to protect minors.
Victim Assistance Coordinators
The first obligation of the Church with regard to victims is for healing and reconciliation.
The USCCB has established diocesan victim assistance coordinators for U.S dioceses and archdioceses who are available to help victims/survivors make a formal complaint of abuse. The Victim Assistance Coordinator can arrange personal meetings with a bishop or his representative and obtain support for the needs of the individual and families involved. Major superiors and other religious leaders can make use of these contacts in their locale to provide assistance and resources.
